B.Tech refers to the bachelor of technology, it is a four years (Hons.) undergraduate degree offered by many universities in Pakistan after DAE or FSc Pre-engineering degree in Pakistan. Many University award B.Tech degree to students which include B.Tech pass two years degree and B.Tech (Hons) four years degree in Pakistan. Every year more than 10,000 graduates get this degree from different universities of Pakistan which include many famous universities like UET, IUB, Quaid-e-Azam University, Preston University, Indus Institute of Higher Education Karachi, Superior University, Federal Urdu University and many others. You can see the complete list of universities in the table given below. B.Tech degree holder is called as Engineering Technologist who works in the field of technology and is trained there.
As far as the status of B.Tech degree is concerned, we can say that its status is till undefined and lots of discussion has to be done to clear the professional status of the degree because the status of B.Tech degree is still contradicted in Pakistan. According to the entire source it is revealed that B.Tech programme was formally launched in 1973 and the then Ministry of Education was directed to give status of B.Tech (Hons) degree at par with B.Sc Engineering/B.E degree in Pakistan. But The Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) has refused to register technologists and has been continuously contradicting the status of B.Tech engineers in Pakistan. The reason behind was that B.Tech degree was not considered as worthy as B.E degree and B.Tech degree holders have no further way to get advanced engineering education except M.Tech so that’s why B.Tech degree was not considered equal to B.E or BSc degree in Engineering. Due to this undefined status of the degree, the B.tech degree holders could not get as much jobs opportunities as like B.E engineering degree holders.
So viewing this entire situation it is the need of time to establish a body which gives a recognized status to this degree. Therefore B.Tech engineers have demanded to establish PTC i.e. Pakistan Technology Council for the identification of B.Tech engineers. B.tech degree holders suffer because of absence of any council for them and their conflict with BSc engineer are remain unsolved. B.tech Engineers want Government to resolve this issue and should make a separate council for Engineering Technologist B.Tech and Technicians DAE named as “Pakistan Technology Council” We hope that this issue will be soon resolved.
