CIIT celebrates 27th Convocation

COMSATS Institute of Information Technology (CIIT) Islamabad held its 27th Convocation here on Wednesday. Rector CIIT Dr Syed Muhammad Junaid Zaidi awarded degrees to 752 graduates of different programmes and famous philanthropist social worker Abdus Sattar Edhi was also awarded an honorary doctorate degree by University of Bedfordshire UK during the convocation. Vice Chancellor Professor Les Ebdon CBE Bedfordshire University, UK conferred this degree to Abdus Sattar Edhi.CIIT celebrates 27th Convocation

Addressing the graduating students, Rector CIIT said that excellence in the field of sciences and technology is a prerequisite to develop skilled manpower. He stressed that Pakistan has to introduce structural changes in the policy on science and technology for ensuring the qualitative transformation of industrial sector and to compete in the international market.

The Rector CIIT further added that COMSATS Institute of Information Technology, within 10 years of its existence, has delivered state-of-the-art technological, scientific education and has broadened the research horizons.

It is one of the youngest institutions of HEC who has spread the canvas of Higher Education all over Pakistan by running its 7 campuses, well equipped with modernized labs and other requisite facilities. CIIT, recognizing its duties, is committed to provide the best opportunities for learning and personal development within a caring and supportive environment, Dr Junaid Zaidi said.

The Rector also lauded the efforts of the faculty and said that I wish to commend the excellent job done by the faculty who has been innovative in teaching and delivery methods and who helped you not only in your studies but also in your character building. They surely trained you well enough to handle the up-coming challenges coming your way in your professional lives.

The Government of Pakistan is fully committed with the aim to provide “Quality

technological, scientific and modern education for all”. In this regard, Government

is fully aware of rapid technological advancement around the globe, Rector CIIT added.

Dr Junaid Zaidi underlined that the Government has been putting in all its best. Now it’s your responsibility to prove your capabilities. At the 27th Convocation of CIIT, 752 students that were awarded degrees in different disciplines.

56 students were awarded Gold Medals, 38 got silver and 32 students were awarded bronze medals on the basis of their outstanding performance in their academic careers. From Islamabad campus 12 students got Institute Gold Medals, 5 students got silver and 5 students were awarded bronze medals. Apart from this 5 students were awarded PhD degrees and there were114 graduates from MS disciplines as well.

Abdus Sattar Edhi was conferred the honorary Doctoral Degree by University of Bedfordshire on the recommendation of COMSATS Institute of Information Technology for his involvement in Charity work and his tireless efforts in helping the needy and the poor.

For him the world of suffering is his tutor and source of wisdom through which he has established a system of services to reduce the human miseries. Despite his enormous fame and the vast sums of money that passes through his hands, Abdus Sattar Edhi adheres to a very modest lifestyle.dailytimes
